Well that's what I want to sing today - and you'll see why below ;) - so, hit read more, click the video and boogie along as you read on.
Remember the wedding of Nayan and Srabani in January this year? Well, in a fun chat with our Motif team in Dhaka it was rather shyly revealed that their first baby will be due about their first anniversary! We are of course all very excited because she will be everyone's little girl, not just theirs - she'll be in 'our' family :D
And that's the way with all family relationships in Bangladesh, everyone looks out for everyone else. Yes, it gets annoying for teens who want to be independent, away from watchful eyes; even for young marrieds who'd prefer a bit of privacy from the in-laws now and then. But it is a wonderful thing when celebrations see hundreds of extended family members gather for fun times; when hard times prove the support network truly is there and, when you just need to share a good cup of tea 'cha' with someone who knows ALL your history already.
The homestead 'bari' has it all, yet as family members settle further and further apart, mostly due to jobs and study, it becomes more of a challenge to continue these deep bonds. Enter the Internet - it may not be the tasty chai and chat time 'adda', but it's better than nothing when you're far from home and need to plug in to your support system.
Thanksgiving week is a great time to be reminded of the blessing of family, and to hear Nayan and Srabani's news. Every new little life is filled with hope and serves to remind us all of who we are to be for each other.
Motif is taking this week to celebrate 'Family', those who nurture our 'hope', so do let us know the 'extended family' members you're thankful for - both blood ties and others :)
Happy Thanksgiving ... and hope you're enjoying the groovy '70s flashback ;) - yeah, yeah, yeah!
