Change has been a big deal in 2011 - from the Arab Spring to Occupy Wall Street and many points in between. No wonder Time magazine named "The Protester" their Person of the Year.
deciding for change
Information is now communicated globally by a single fingertip - huge results from very little effort - wait ... how much effort?
The actions of many across nations are fuelled by anger and despair, yet we know ourselves what it takes to turn knowledge into action ... it is rarely 'a little effort'! Yes, the means of communication needs only a touch but the conviction to make that stand can cost much ... maybe even your life.
acting for change
The most powerful motivation to get involved is to understand what affects our lives personally - and then ... to engage, like Molly Katchpole. Rather than be bystanders in our own lives, we can change for the better what happens for us and for others.
You're likely reading this blog because you care about Fair Trade. You already make a stand against exploitative trade - excellent - you know how 'right' it feels to do the right thing. You're now sensitised as a change agent, keep it up!
... next step
Recently this blog cited books on pimpology as an outrage - but how to effect a change? Any gift book I tried to buy on-line last month was sold directly by or via traders who stock this training material for human traffickers - a growing number of us want to challenge this and other human trafficking issues. Please read this US based account to find out why.
Can we start a petition like Molly Katchpole? We need your feedback on setting a goal and how best to communicate/acheive it. Fortunately we can't stop this material being published (we all guard our freedom of speech) - or can we? Can we reduce its circulation, can we get a warning printed on the front covers (such as on cigarette boxes), can we ...? your comments, ideas and questions are valuable - please share them below.
Where can each of us make a change for the good in 2012? Why not join a movement ... or even start your own.
Looking forward to some big CHANGES in 2012,
